Real World Retail’s 2016 Year-end Review

New Staff/ New Office

This year has been brilliant for the Real World Retail team! Firstly, we welcomed 8 new individuals to our ever-growing team! Pam Kelly (Retail Product Manager) joined us in late April and in early August we welcomed Sidharthan Selvaraj (Data Analytics Developer) and Bogdan Mascan (Junior ETL Developer) to the team. But we didn’t stop there!! We were blessed with 4 more wonderful members including Neil Murphy (Systems and Process Manager), Candie Malone (Office Manager), Deirdre O’Donovan (Customer Success Executive) and Jonathan Devitt (Senior ETL Developer). Furthermore, we had Louise Hogan (Marketing Intern) join us for the Summer months and she has now returned for the December/January period.

There is now more than double the number of employees here at rwr than this time last year and we couldn’t be happier with our growth!!

We are growing!

We are continuing to expand our team into the new year and we are currently looking for candidates for the positions of Business Development Executive and Senior Business Development Executive. More information on these positions is available on our career’s page.

At this rate of expansion, we quickly outgrew our old office and moved to our fancy new office in Calmount Park in August. We settled in to our new home and it was business as usual very quickly.

Buying and Merchandise Planning Event and Connecting the Patient to Pharmacy Event

In February, we held the ‘Buying and Merchandise Planning’ Event in the Merrion Hotel, Dublin. Over 200 head office retailers attended. We originally planned to hold this as a morning seminar, but we had such high demand that we ran the event in the morning and again in the afternoon. The Group Buying Director and Senior Merchandise Manager from Heatons Department Stores headlined the event and shared universal best practice buying and merchandise planning techniques that even independent retailers can apply. The day was a great success.

A successful event at Connecting the Patient to Pharmacy

In addition, in October we held ‘Connecting the Patient to Pharmacy’ event in the K Club, Straffan alongside our partners McLernons Computers. The attendees included those from independent and group pharmacies. It promised to be a good day and it didn’t disappoint!! Then again with speakers like Johnny Walker and our very own John Hogan how could it ever disappoint! We were overjoyed with the feedback from the attendees as it was very positive. We would like to thank all of our team, our sponsors and the attendees for making this possible and we look forward to hosting more events in 2017.








Other Events

We enjoyed holding events but we were by no means shy at attending other events during the year also. We are fortunate to have had representatives at numerous events such as

  • Pharmacy Show in Birmingham
  • ICCA Conference
  • United Drug Pharmacy Show
  • REI’s Retail Retreat
  • Irish Pharmacy Awards

One event in particular that stood out for us was the Pharmacy Forum which took place in May this year in Alicante, Spain. We were honoured to be the Gold Sponsor at this event. The event took place over 2 days and our very own Conall Lavery was a guest speaker.

Investment

In June of this year we were delighted to announce that Real World Retail closed a €920,000 fundraising round from angel investors and Enterprise Ireland. Enterprise Ireland only invests in approximately 95 new high potential start-up companies each year, furthermore many of our customers became private investors. This capital and the belief that our investors have in us is greatly satisfying as it shows us that they believe our solution will benefit many more businesses.

The capital raised in investments is allowing us to expand our team and to continuously improve and adjust our solution.

An end of year review would not be complete without thanking everyone that helped us prosper throughout the year.
